Wow! What an incredible night for the Jenny White
Motorsports team. The day got off to a great start when Jenny set a new
all-time track record for I-70 Speedway with a qualifying time of 16.434
that would leave her sitting on the pole for the 300 lap late model
feature event. At the start of the race, Jeff Klem who started on the
outside of the front row grabbed the early lead, but Jenny held on to a
close second. Jenny suffered from some minor handling problems
throughout the first half of the race, but ran consistently in the top 5
until the mandatory 150 lap pit stop. During the pit stop the crew went
to work on the #17 and Jenny came back charging to the front. On lap
276, Jenny was running second behind the leader Jeff Klem ready for one
last challenge for the win, when an unfortunate incident between the
lapped cars of Damon Elardo and Rod Cordon also collected the #2 of Jeff
Klem. Jenny then inherited the lead and as the only car on the lead lap
went on to win the race uncontested. Special thanks go out to the
entire Jenny White Motorsports crew and all of our 2003 sponsors: Dr.
Laura Doan with the Associated Women's Care Physicians, Gary Souder with
MAC Tools, Ron Haw with Champion Direct and AJ's Import Garage for
making this success possible.
10/11/03
The Jenny White Motorsports team has decided that they
will be participating in this year's World Cup 500 hosted by I-70
Speedway. Today's practice session was shortened by rain, but the #17
was running great and is all ready to go. Due to rain, qualifying and
heat races scheduled to be run this afternoon have been postponed until
tomorrow.
9/20/03
Jenny celebrated her 21st birthday this week, just in
time for the 2003 season finale! With the cool weather setting in for
the evening, Jenny began the Fast Four heat race on the outside of the
front row. At the drop of the green flag, she immediately took the lead
and held off Klem's #2 to the end. After pleasing her many fans at the
drivers autograph session, Jenny began the feature race from the outside
of row 3. By lap 4, she had already moved up to second, and was running
behind the 86 of Buddy Benedict. Jenny had a strong hold on the second
position until lap 17 when she was challenged by Jeff Klem. The two
raced side by side until Klem was finally able to overtake the
position. With a car suffering from a tire problem, Jenny was able to
defend the third position until lap 36 when Rod Cordon was able to slip
by while manuvering through lapped traffic. Jenny then brought home the
#17 Monte Carlo in 4th for one last top 5 finish. With a successful
2003 race season completed, Jenny came home with second place in the
season points championship, 3 feature wins, 15 top 5 finishes, and 11
heat race wins. Congratulations to the entire Jenny White Motorsports
team on another great year!
9/13/03
Rain has forced the I-70 Speedway officials to cancel
tonight's NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series program. Racing will resume
next Saturday night, September 20. It will be the final points race of
the 2003 season.
9/6/03
8/30/03
I-70 Speedway and all other local race tracks were forced
to cancel all racing scheduled for tonight due to the massive amounts of
rain throughout the area this weekend. The 100 lap late model special
has been rescheduled for next Saturday night. We hope to see you all
there!
8/23/03
Due to the NASCAR Winston Cup race being televised
tonight along with other area events, there was no racing scheduled for
I-70 Speedway tonight. So, the #17 team decided to take the evening off
as well. We will be back at I-70 again next weekend.
8/16/03
The Fast Four heat race started with Jenny on the inside
of the second row. At the start of the race, Jenny and Klem both
attempted to pass the pole car of Buddy Benedict, but as they moved down
the track, Jenny was forced to back out while Klem made the pass on the
high side. Meanwhile, Cordon was able to gain a commanding lead and
proceeded to win the heat race. Jenny was soon able to get by the 86 of
Benedict and pressure Klem for the second position, but at the end of
the 8 lap race she finished in 3rd. She then started the feature race
on the inside of row 4. On lap 2, the 86 got into the back of the 9 car
collecting the 77 and the 2 of Jeff Klem. The 9 and the 86 were able to
continue while the 77 had to be towed allowing Klem the opportunity to
head to pit lane for adjustments. On the restart, Jenny was then 3rd,
behind the 7 of Bates and the 12 of Cordon. Cordon and Jenny both made
it by Bates and were running a tight 1st and 2nd when on lap 17, Cordon
caught lapped traffic. Jenny then challenged him for the lead on the
high side, but Cordon then proceeded to run into the back of both the 88
and the 62, causing a wreck in turn 4. Jenny was able to narrowly miss
the wreck by spinning to the bottom of the track, but due to the new no
fault rule, she was sent to the tail of the field. Fortunately, her car
was back almost as fast as ever tonight and she was able to quickly race
her way up through the pack and was up to 6th when the yellow came out
for a spin by the 24 of Dave Wilson. The 86 car then jumped the restart
and was sent to the tail and in 2 laps Jenny was running 3rd. Jenny
then took the 2nd position from the Sam Payne, but ran out of laps to
challenge Klem for the win.
8/9/03
Jenny started on the pole for the Fast Four heat race
tonight, inside the #2 of Jeff Klem. At the start of the race, Jenny
was pushed through turn 2 by the 12 of Rod Cordon, allowing Klem to take
over the lead. Cordon and the 86 of Buddy Benedict then proceeded to
split Jenny on both sides making it 3-wide through turns 3 an 4. Jenny
was able to regain control of her car and all 3 made it through the
corner, but due to the loss of track position Jenny was then forced to
settle for the 4th place finish. However, she fared much better in the
feature race in which she started on the outside of row 2, again next to
Klem. On lap 3, she moved into second place, behind Jeff Klem. Jenny
defended the second position for the remaining 37 laps and both
restarts, but was unable to take the win away from Klem.
8/2/03
As the night began, the #17 crew found that the previous
week's handling problems were not all corrected as they had hoped.
However, Jenny somehow pulled off the win in the 2nd late model heat
race, and was fortunate enough to start the feature race on the pole.
She managed to hang on to the lead for 11 laps, but then fell back to
second as the 86 of Benedict was able to get by her on the outside. Ten
laps later, Cordon also made it around Jenny in his 12 car. On lap 23,
the caution came out when the 2 and the 52 tangled collecting the 14 of
Tim Swearengin. This brought the rest of the field back up behind Jenny
for the restart. With 8 laps to go, Jenny was in a side by side battle
with Jeff Klem for the 3rd position, but was unable to hold him off.
Jenny then finished the race in 4th. Even with all the problems the team
has faced over the past few weeks, Jenny has still maintained her 2nd
place position in the season points standings.
7/26/03
The Fast Four heat race started with Jenny on the outside
of row one. At the start of the race, all four ran side by side in
line-up formation until Jenny and Jeff Klem were able to use the high
side to outrun Bates and Benedict. Jenny was followed closely by Klem,
but was able to hold him off to bring home the heat race win. Jenny
then started the feature race from the outside of row 3. By lap 4, she
already knew her car was having major handling problems as she fell into
line and was gradually shuffled back to a 7th place finish. The team
later discovered that the serious handling problems during the race were
a result of a mechanical problem in the rear end, and they hope that
after correcting the problem the car will be back up to speed next
week.
7/19/03
Jenny and Jeff Klem started on the second row of the Fast
Four heat race ready to battle to the front, but after several attempts,
neither Jenny nor Jeff were able to make it to the front. The feature
race started with Jenny 3rd row inside, again next to the #2 of Jeff
Klem. Jenny quickly moved into 2nd place on lap one, using a daring 3
wide pass under Benedict and Knoll to follow Tim Swearengin by Todd
Bates in the #7. Shortly after that, the 23 of McCullough and the 29 of
Elardo were involved in an incident on the front stretch, and the 23 was
unable to continue. After running side by side for 2 laps, Klem
eventually made it by Jenny moving her to the 3rd position. By lap 15,
the 86 of Benedict had worked his way up to 4th and was running 4th when
he got impatient and pushed Jenny through turns 3 and 4 causing her to
spin down the front straight. Narrowly managing to miss the walls,
Jenny made an awesome save and a quick trip down pit lane. She then
restarted at the back of the field with Benedict who was put to the
rear. By lap 18, Jenny was back up to the 4th position. Then on lap
3,1 she made her final pass under the 14 of Swearengin just as his right
front tire went down sending him into the turn 4 wall to end his night.
Jenny finished the race in 3rd behind Jeff Klem and Buddy Benedict.
7/12/03
There was a full moon tonight, and the night lived up to
it as several drivers were involved in some major wrecks. Fortunately,
Jenny was not one of them. She was one, of what appeared to be very
few, who made it through the night unscathed. The Late Model Fast Four
heat race started with Jenny on row 2 outside of current points leader
Jeff Klem. After a few laps, she was able to make it to the front and
capture the win. She was followed by Tim Swearengin, Jeff Klem, and
Marty Castens. For the feature race, Jenny then started on the inside
of row 5. On lap 5, the red flag came out as the 61 of Castens took a
hard hit into the turn 1 wall. Casten's car was removed from the track
on dual wreckers and the #77 of Steve Barber was sent to the back of the
field for involvement in the incident. The race then resumed, and Jenny
began working her way to the front. By lap 15, she was up to 3rd, after
passing Knoll, Bates, Swearengin, and Cordon. It was not until lap 36
that Jenny was able to run down and pass Buddy Benedict in the 86 car.
Unfortunately, after getting around Benedict, there were not enough laps
left in the 40 lap event for her to catch Jeff Klem. Jenny had to
settle for a solid 2nd place finish. That left the 3 point margin
between she and Klem unchanged from the previous week, so Jenny will be
back at I-70 next week for another hard charge at taking over the points
lead!
7/5/03
Jenny made the clean
sweep in the Late Model division tonight. Jenny was fast qualifier for
the Miller Lite up the Night Late Model 100 with a time of 16.823
followed by Jeff Klem with a 16.875. Jeff and Jenny then each started
in the back row of the Fast Four heat race after finishing 1st
and 2nd in feature race the previous week. When the green
flag fell, Jenny made a quick move from the 3rd position to
the outside of the pole car, Buddy Benedict, to take over the lead. She
then led the whole race and brought home the heat race win with Klem
finishing in 2nd. For the 100 lap feature event Jenny then
started from the 9th position. She patiently worked her way
through the field and then took over the lead from Tim Swearengin on lap
54. Jenny maintained the lead for the remaining 46 laps bringing home
the win in the #17 Monte Carlo. Current points leader, Jeff Klem again
claimed the second position. Jenny now has 3 wins this season at I-70
and has won both of the 100 lap specials. For the last several weeks
she and Klem have been in a tight battle for the points lead. Picking
up 4 points over Jeff Klem she has now closed his lead to a mere 3
points.
6/28/03
After a disappointing finish last weekend, the JWM team
worked hard this week to get everything back together for tonight's
race. Jenny sat on the pole in the second heat race with Jeff Klem
holding the outside pole position. The green flag fell and Jenny and
Jeff battled door to door for 4 laps until Jeff got loose on the high
side and Jenny took over the lead. She went on to lead the remaining 4
laps and collect the victory. For the feature event Jenny and Jeff once
again started on the front row. At the start of the race Jeff claimed
the lead. The race played out without any cautions and Jenny came home
with a second place finish.
6/21/03
Starting from the second position in the fast four heat
race, Jenny went straight to the lead on the first turn, and stayed
there until the completion of the 8 lap race. The feature race had
Jenny starting 4th row inside with a car that was ready to race! On the
first lap, Jenny quickly moved into 4th place. Then, the 24 of Wilson
spun on the front straight bringing out the yellow on lap 3. After
running down the leaders, on lap 10, Jenny made an awesome pass to the
outside of both the 7 of Todd Bates and the number 2 of Jeff Klem to
take over the lead. The next 13 laps featured Jenny racing through the
slower traffic and stretching her lead over the 2nd place car of Jeff
Klem. Unfortunately, on lap 30, Dave Wilson and Troy Vandiver in the 13
wrecked on the front stretch just as Jenny and Jeff were about to put
them down a lap. With the track blocked under a huge cloud of smoke,
both Jenny and Jeff found themselves involved in the wreck resulting in
some major front end damage to both cars. After lots of help from pit
crews and fellow racers, both Jenny and Jeff returned to the track, but
Jenny was forced to return to the pits due to a cut brake line and a
lack of steering. Jeff and Jenny ended the night with the 10th and 11th
finishing positions. This was Jenny first finish out of the top 10 this
season. She is currently 2nd in the seasonal points standings, only 6
points behind current point leader and past champion Jeff Klem.
6/14/03
The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series had tonight off for a
race hosted at I-70 by the touring series ASA. However, the number 17
was still victorious with Mike Garvey from Atlanta, Georgia taking home
the win.
6/7/03
The evening began with Jenny and Jeff Klem tied for
first place in the season points standings. Hoping for her third
straight win, Jenny started the race on the outside of row 5. Held
up by slower traffic, it was already lap 8 by the time Jenny made
her way up through the pack to fifth place. On lap 19, she caught
and passed the #7 of Todd Bates, putting her in 4th place. With no
yellow flags to help out, Jenny kept narrowing the gap until she
passed Benedict in the #86 on lap 27. With a car that wasn't quite
as awesome as it was the week before, she was unable to catch
Swearingen and Klem, and had to settle for a third place finish. A
yellow flag would have been nice, but fortunately all of the Late
Models went home in one piece!
5/31/03
Back to Back Wins!!!
As a result
of winning the last feature race, Jenny began tonight’s events at the
back of the Fast Four heat race. By lap 2 she had already taken over
the lead, taking the high side around Rod Cordon, Jim McCullough, and
Buddy Benedict. Jenny went on to lead the remaining 6 laps and win her
heat race. The starting positions for drivers in the Fast Four race are
predetermined regardless of finishing position. Jenny started on the
outside of row 4, while, Jeff Klem, the winner of heat race 2 started on
the pole for the feature race. At the start of the race Jenny fell
quickly into the 6th position behind Klem, Swearengin,
Hartford , Bates and Benedict. By
lap 10 Jenny had already used the high side to her advantage and
steadily worked her way up to 3rd. On lap 12 Jenny went to
the high side yet once again to take the 2nd place position
away from the 2 of Jeff Klem and chase down the leader Tim Swearengin.
After working her way through the field, on lap 18, Jenny used one final
charge to the outside to take over the lead from the 14 of Swearengin.
With 22 laps remaining in the race Jenny went on to work her way through
the lapped traffic and win her second race of the season. The finishing
order of the six cars remaining on the lead lap was 17, 2, 14, 7, 12,
and 61. The results of tonight’s event now put Jenny and Jeff Klem tied
for the lead in the season points standings.
5/24/03
Tonight's races were cancelled due to rain.
5/17/03
Saturday, May 17th, was host to the first Late Model 100
lap special of the 2003 season. Qualifying for this event was completed
last weekend, so rather than qualifying again, three heat races were run
to determine the starting line up for the 15 car late model feature
race. Jenny finished 2nd in her heat race, but due to her top 4 finish
last week Jenny competed in the "Fast Four" race with her starting
position predetermined as the outside of row 3. At the start of the 100
lap feature event, Jeff Klem went for a wild ride down the backstretch
in a wreck also involving the 41, 1, and 97. The 2 of Klem and the 41
of Red Denny were unable to continue, but all other cars did return to
the track for a complete restart. On the restart, Jenny fell quickly
into the 3rd position. By lap 9, she was making the pass for the lead
on the outside of the 29 of Damon Elardo. Jenny went on to lead the
next 90 laps and win the race, lapping all but the 2nd and 3rd place
cars of Rod Cordon and Buddy Benedict.
5/10/03
There must have been a full moon
For the feature race, Jenny started 3rd row outside,
she quickly moved into 5th position, but was passed by the #1 of
O'Neil and the #2 of Klem on lap 11. On lap 28, the #86 of Benedict
and Cordon's #12 both ended up in the wall on the front stretch. On
the restart, Jenny was in 6th position. Three laps later, the #25
of Martin and Benedict's 86 hit the wall in turn 4, bringing out
another yellow. On the restart, Bates' #7 hit the wall on the front
stretch after leading all previous laps, moving Jenny up to 5th.
Two laps later Barber's #77 and Hartford's #97 finished in the turn
3 wall and Jenny moved up to 4th, where she
finished the race after avoiding all the wrecks!
5/3/03
Due to the absence of last week's 4th place finisher,
Joe Ross, Jeff Klem who finished in the 5th position started on the
pole of the Fast Four heat race. Jenny finished 2nd in last weeks
feature; therefore she started and also finished right behind Klem
in the 8 lap dash. After 3 attempts to figure
out a line-up for the Late Models, Jenny started the night 5th row
inside. Steadily working her way up through the field, Jenny made
her way past several cars including a nice high side pass on Buddy
Benedict followed by a pass to the inside of Steve Barber's #77.
Swearingen, in his #14, tried to hold her off for several laps, but
she was eventually able to get by him on the outside. Shortly
after, an incident on the front straight in which the 29 of Damon
Elardo went into the wall and brought out the caution. On the
restart, Jenny was then able to capture the 3rd place finishing
position from Todd Bates in the #7.
4/26/03
As a result of her sixth place finish in the last feature
race, Jenny started on the outside of the second row in heat race #2
tonight. After narrowly missing a spin by the 12 of Rod Cordon, she
then finished the 8 lap race in second place behind the 14 car of Tim
Swearengin who had set the pole for the race. That put both Tim and
Jenny on the front row for the start of the 40 lap feature race. On the
initial start, the 12 of Cordon and the 24 of
Wilson got together on the front
straight bringing out the yellow. That was cause for a second double
file start on which Jenny was able to outrun Swearengin on the outside
and capture the lead. Jenny held on to the lead for the first 10 laps,
but as she was battling an ill-handling car, the 1 of O’Neal was able to
sneak by her and open the door for Swearengin and Bates as well. That
moved Jenny back to the 4th position, where she was soon
passed by the 2 of Jeff Klem. Jenny was still running 5th
when on lap 21, the red flag came out for a bad crash by the 04 car of
Jeremy Kelly. The 7 of Bates went the pits under the red flag, which
gave Jenny back the 4th spot, but after the restart the 25 of
Martin was able to get around her, putting her back to 5th.
However, a few laps later, Martin spun on the front straight while
attempting to pass Swearengin, returning 4th position to
Jenny. Then on lap 32, Klem and O’Neal got together in a battle for the
lead resulting in both cars being put to the rear of the field. Jenny
was then able to defend her 2nd place position for the
remaining 8 laps and claim 2nd place in the current points
standings as well.
4/19/03
After blessing us with a great weather for racing last
weekend, Mother Nature decided to keep this weekend for herself. I-70
Speedway and nine other area tracks were all forced to cancel tonight's
races due to the large amounts of rain throughout the area.
4/12/03
A perfect night for racing! At 10:15, with 15 Late
Models entered, Jenny started the feature race on the outside of the
2nd row. On lap two, Jenny passed the #77 of Barber for the 3rd
position, behind the leaders Martin and Benedict. On lap 6, the 23
of McCullough spun out and hit the wall. The race restarted with
Jenny in 3rd place. On lap 8, Jenny passed the #86 of Benedict,
moving into 2nd place. Soon after, the #8 of Reed made contact with
the inside wall, bringing out the yellow flag. As Jenny made her
move to pass the #25 of Martin for the lead on lap 13, the #2 of
Klem hit her, causing her to spin sideways. She quickly corrected
without stopping on the track, but the yellow flag was thrown
anyway. For some unexplained reason, a call was made to send Jenny
to the rear. Klem was not penalized. Jenny then had to make her
way back up through the field from the back. By lap 35, she had
made her way back up to 6th place, where she finished the race.
4/5/03
A Frigid Start to 2003!
It's racing time again, though Mother Nature doesn't
quite agree. The number of both race teams and dedicated race fans
willing to brave the frigid weather was surprisingly large for tonight's
Miller Lite Season Opener. The night of racing began with hot laps
starting promptly at 6:00, followed by heat races with line-ups
determined by pill draw. In the late model division, John O'Neal Jr.
claimed victory in heat race 1, while Jenny came home with the win in
race 2. Due to the new line-up procedures this put both Jenny and John
at the back of the pack for the start of the feature, and with the
threat of rain in the picture the usual 40 lap race was shortened to
only 30. As the green flag fell for the start of the first feature race
of the season, the 16 car field was racing hard into turns 1 and 2 when
the pole car spun, resulting in a 10 car pile up. Jenny was able to
make it through with only minor damage, but would have to restart at the
back again after making a quick pit stop to check things over. When the
race went back to green, Jenny began working her way up until lap 6 when
cars 6 and 77 went into the wall in turn 4. The remaining 24 laps of
the race were completed under green and Jenny finished the race in the
6th position. |
